While scanning my site meter stats I have noticed a fair number of keyword hits coming from searches for Lowcountry architecture.  By the way, Lowcountry is commonly spelled as one word, which may help with some of the searches.  I wrote a brief post about Lowcountry architecture about a month ago not expecting it to bring much attention.  Surprisingly, there is not much other information about Lowcounty architecture available on the internet which, I’m sure, is why I get such a high ranking when googled.  This has prompted me to begin compiling photos and information about Antebellum and contemporary home designs that fit within the Bluffton Historical Preservation Committee’s standards.  While there are a number of other relevant home styles which are common in the Hilton Head and Bluffton area, I will be concentrating on historic and neo-traditional styles of Lowcountry homes and buildings, which is what I feel most web searchers are seeking.

It will take an additional week or two to work on the page, take photos and create links for information about Lowcountry architecture.  In the meanwhile, here are a few links to area designers and regional architects that offer home plans aswell as a few listings from the Cora Bett Thomas office which represent the Lowcountry home styles:

Moser Design Group – MDG is based in Beaufort, SC and offers home plans in the neo-traditional Lowcountry style.  The plans range from 2 bedroom cottages to 4 bedroom manors and sideyards (long and narrow homes with large porches which face the “side yard”.) and also include plans for outbuildings.  The mdg designs are reasonably prices, and while mdg does not offer customizing of the plans, they can be modified by an outside architect.  This is a great place to start in order to gain an understanding of Lowcountry and ”Old Town” Bluffton design.

William E. Poole Designs – The William E. Poole designs are contemporary home plans with a historic styling.  The plans are mostly of southern style homes, but also include a few northern coastal style home plans.  The plans range from 1700 sq. ft. to over 5700 sq. ft.  As with the MDG plans, the Poole designs are able to be modified by and outside architect.
